Why the drive-thru is ruining Starbucks
The thing about Starbucks is, their business model is not based around selling coffee, but around being what they call a "third place". That's what they're selling. They say that people have three places to go: home, work, and a "third place" to meet and socialize. If someone uses the drive-thru, they miss out on that "third place" experience. Therefore, they lose the main part of what Starbucks is selling. Plus a lot of times the lines are longer, and it takes forever to get your coffee. I never use the Starbucks drive-thru, and I try not to even go to one with a drive-thru. It seems like the service is better at the ones without a drive-thru. Friends of mine have brought up the fact that for the first time, Starbucks has started closing some of its stores. My recommendation: Close the drive-thru locations first.
